Trump has had his presidency mired by controversy, first with the Muller Investigation, and now the fake video. For reference, the video depicts Donald Trump assault and violently kill media critics.
When Trump first took office in January 2017, it was already contentious. Hilary Clinton supporters marched on Washington chanting “Trump [is] not our President.” This signified to the world that Trump truly was in charge of a divided America.
Trump has continued to run his business whilst in office- going against the Constitution. Trump could’ve given his business to a blind trust- many suspected his children would be the blind trust- but instead, he did not. When this was made public, many called for his impeachment, something that has not happened.
Trump has also been instrumental in reforming the tax system in the US. First, he lowered taxes for the middle class, which also helped the rich. He then lowered corporate tax from 37% (one of the highest in the world) to 22% (more business friendly). When this too was found by the media, people called for his impeachment, after all, he was blatantly going against the constitution. He was enriching himself, and his powerful, billionaire best friends.
He has also made empty promises to the public- the famed border wall spoken about in 2016 has never come to fruition. Certain parts of the border where fences once stood are now a wall, although some point out these walls were approved under Obama.
Trump has also nearly started two wars- first, he had a rout over Twitter, with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un. In which, he made a threat of “fire and fury” on live television whilst onboard Air Force One. Trump also nearly started a war with Iran over the Nuclear Arms Deal. He stated that he wasn’t happy over “Iran getting its nukes back” despite nothing being arranged like that.
Is Trump really that bad?
Whilst we may have shown the bad side of the president, he really isn’t that bad. Under his presidency, we have unprecedented economic growth, record lows in unemployment, and overall satisfaction.
Some Democrats will still say that he is, of course, a villain. After all, we can’t help corporations out, even though we have seen direct results of that helping the economy. Apple created 1,000 new jobs, Google brought back the money it had stored abroad, paying investors and workers more!
However, when it all comes back into focus, America is still divided. There is record wealth inequality, the rich are getting richer, whilst the poor are slowly getting poorer.
The long forgotten ideals of socialism and communism are taking hold again. Last week, I had the privilege to talk to political science students at the University of Texas. When I spoke with them, I did not meet one single capitalist, something that would have never happened only 20 years ago.
Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Elizabeth Warren are becoming more popular with their “man of the people stance”. They have addressed the issues, they believe they can stop them, they have even attacked Trump for not addressing them.
What are my thoughts on this?
I personally don’t have much love, nor hatred for POTUS. I can see why people detest him, I can also see why people love him.
In areas that he has revived, mainly in the southern states, he is a hero. However, this has come at a cost, jobs in the northern most states has been lost too, mainly migrating abroad.
Whilst I will probably vote for him in 2020, I could see him losing the presidential race. If Sanders or Warren can get a strong enough message out there, one of them will become president. However, I highly doubt the effectiveness of their message at the moment .
I would like to end this with a prediction, by the time I die (I’m currently in my mid 20’s), there will be a socialist revolution. I can’t tell you when or where, but I believe that the western world’s major economies will collapse. I believe that the US, France, Germany, Australia, Britain and other economies will collapse within the next 20-30 years.
I hope you are enjoying this new style of opinion article. I’d love to hear your own opinion in the comments. Do you agree with my thoughts? If not, why do you? I’d love to know!
